Are you considering going the NATURAL ROUTE but not sure what to do? how to start?

- Check out this article on Essence.Com by the Natural Hair diva Curly Nikki!

READER QUESTION: What are the products and tools I will  need to start my natural hair journey?
CURLYNIKKI’s  RESPONSE: Your foray into natural hair can be as involved or as simple  as you choose to make it. Some folks (like myself) go HAM and indulge their  inner product junky, buying up all the latest potions and notions, while others  keep it simple, choosing to purchase the staples and nothing more. Below, I’ll  give you a list of what I consider to be the necessities… no matter the route  you choose.
1. Wide Tooth Comb- Secure a wide tooth  comb, preferably seamless, for detangling your natural curls and coils. My  favorite of the moment is the Ouidad Double Detangler. When your fingers can’t  stand up to the job, your wide tooth comb should be your tool of choice.
2. Satin scarf and/or pillow case - Our hair is  naturally dry and tossing and turning on a cotton pillow case for 8 hours will  leech the little moisture you have right out. To prevent morning tangles and  dryness, invest in a satin pillow case, or better yet, a scarf or bonnet… or  both! My hair is in much better condition now that I consistently wrap it up  every night.

Breaking HAIR NEWS: Can Relaxers CAUSE FIBROIDS???

4 May

Apparently SO!

Please read this following article from Essence.com by Whitney Gaspard

Excerpt:

“This new research  reveals that in a sample of 23,000 pre-menopausal Black American women  between 1997 and 2009, Black women had reportedly two or three times higher rate  of uterine fibroids.  In the case of young Black girls, their research  shows that there is an association between African-Americans girls who use  straightening and relaxer hair oils and the onset of their menstrual cycle.”

TEA TREE OIL: Secret to CLEAR skin and CLEAN scalp!

4 May

Hi Ladies, if you’ve been following our blogs, you’ll know that one of the causes of Hair-loss is an unhealthy scalp. Some of the causes of unhealthy scalp include dermatitis, fungal infection in the form of ringworm, psoriasis and ringworm. If you believe that you might have a fungal infection on your scalp, it is important to get a proper diagnosis from a dermatologist.

However to treat, or prevent the possibility of fungal or bacteria infections to the scalp, using Tea-tree oilto cleanse your scalp is very beneficial!

Why Tea-Tree Oil?

Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and anti-fungal treatment that is known to fight harmful bacteria on the skin and scalp. Tea Tree oil is an all natural oil that can be used for both the scalp and skin (to fight pimples, rash, etc), as well as on children (it is known to help kill head lice)

FACT: Tea-Tree oil can also help combat SKIN PROBLEMS like  acne/boils, oily, psoriasis, eczema, and dry and itchy skin.

To Use

For daily use: Mix Tea tree oil with other natural oils like almond and apply to scalp

For reducing hair breakage: apply tea tree oil to roots the of your hair, or if you’re using it to fight dry itchy scalp, apply and massage it to your scalp at night, after shampooing and conditioning your hair.

Tip: If you are wearing BRAIDS, you can clean your scalp with tea tree oil. Mix in a spritz bottle with some water and apply to your scalp to avoid dryness, itchiness and irritation.

Note: Real Tea Tree oil has a potent smell to it, that some might not like. Also Tea Tree oil is NOT ingestible!! and avoid close contact to your eyes to avoid irritation.

***If you’re in Lagos and would like to Pre-Purchase Tea Tree oil, email us (myHairmyBeauty@yahoo.com)***
